Musixmatch has partnered with Gucci, the Italian fashion brand, to share the importance of its brand in music over the last century, 100 years of being one of the world’s premier fashion labels.

The power of music is to create connections, between people, culture and brands.

That’s what Gucci really believed in when they approached us to help them create a new fashion line for their #gucci100 campaign celebrating the brand getting 100 years old, but still living as an eternal teenager as stated by Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director.

During its 100 years, Gucci has established itself as one of the most influential fashion houses, becoming a status symbol within pop culture, songs have repeatedly celebrated Gucci with their lyrics.

Musixmatch proudly partnered with Gucci to give them insightful information about how their brand connects with music.

We’ve got the most extensive music metadata database, and we’re constantly working on understanding the meaning of songs through our AI technologies.

Brands are increasingly understanding the power of music in their communication strategies, we also recently partnered with VEVO providing information about the moods of songs in order to align the songs played in advertising to a brand message.

For Gucci instead, we’ve been able to find all the songs where the brand is mentioned over the last 100 years to understand how it connects with different genres of music.

To do that, we used our very own Musixmatch AI console, where every day we analyze the vocabulary of thousands of lyrics. One of these analyses is the Entities Classification, which returns all the keywords used on any song, classified based on their categories, and ranked based on how often they are mentioned. Not only this analysis gives us a point of view around the key topics expressed in a particular song, but it also allows us to classify and match artists based on their most relevant keywords.

We also mapped the Gucci musical journey across genres. Jazz, Psychedelic, Japanese Punk, Disco, Hip Hop, Afrobeat: these genres serve as the musical backdrops to a century-long journey that the Gucci brand across multiple facets of society.

Starting from there, Gucci wanted to connect two universal languages, the language of clothing as an expression of personal identity and the language of music that recalls a collective memory.
